LKH pump outperforms the rest

Secure more uptime and energy savings with LKH pump with condition monitoring. When looking for a pump solution to handle the stringent requirements of a new cleaning-in-place (CIP) system for an ultrafiltration application, a US based food manufacturer turned to Alfa Laval. Alfa Laval LKH centrifugal pumps stood out as the clear choice based on their compact size, operational efficiency, higher flow rates and pressure capabilities, and condition monitoring capabilities.

Higher hygienic standards, higher flow rates and pressures

At the processing facility, industrial pumps transferred low-viscosity fluids for various applications. Accommodating higher hygienic standards and higher flow rates and pressures and was critical to proper operation of the new CIP system. Unlike comparable hygienic pumps, the LKH70 and LKH90 pumps with 100 HP (75 kW) motors easily handle pressures up to 80 psi (5.5 bar) and 240 psi (16.5 bar), respectively.

Performance, pump efficiency and sustainability

The LKH pumps met the manufacturer’s performance metrics and pump efficiency requirements. Plus, by replacing 11 older pumps with energy-efficient LKH pumps, the manufacturer continues to realize significant savings on its annual utility costs due to a reduction of 25 HP (18.5 kW) on each pump. Alfa Laval pumps improve productivity and help optimize fluid handling systems – safely, reliably and sustainably.

Compact, space-saving footprint

Minimizing the use of floor space was also a key criterion for selecting the LKH pumps with its C-faced, close coupled design. Unlike equivalent base-mounted pumps in comparable sizes, the LKH pumps significantly reduce the floor space required.

Real-time monitoring and predictive pump maintenance

Equipped with Alfa Laval condition monitors, the LKH pumps feature sensors that track temperature and vibration in real time using a Bluetooth connection. Operators are alerted if pre-set temperature or vibration thresholds are exceeded. This data helps operators make informed decisions about maintenance, securing uptime and reducing costs by preventing unplanned downtime. Condition monitoring has been up and running since the first day of installation, and the manufacturer is pleased with pump performance.
